Research program
Skouras’s scholarship crosses constitutional law, jurisprudence, political theory, American political development, property theory, political economy, intellectual history, and the social sciences. His central concern is how institutions acquire authority, organize unequal power, and translate historically contingent arrangements into claims of legal, political, or intellectual necessity.
Hellenic and interdisciplinary interests
His current philosophical research includes a sustained study of Aristotle’s Metaphysics Z–H and the relationship among matter, form, organization, and substantial unity. This work forms part of a broader inquiry into the continuing relevance of Hellenic philosophy to contemporary problems of law, democracy, institutional design, human nature, and civic life.
The same interdisciplinary approach guides Civilization and the Predatory Animal, a completed manuscript that places evolutionary biology, philosophy, and legal institutions in a common explanatory framework.
